Is XRP Protocol Weak In Security?

Researchers from the University of Bern claimed that XRP was vulnerable.

Researchers from the University of Bern published a report claiming that Ripple's consensus protocol "provides neither security nor vitality."

Key Ripple Claims
In a blog posted yesterday by the university's Cryptology and Data Security Research Group, researchers Christian Cachin, Amores-Sesar, and Jovana Mićić claimed that the payment company's consensus protocol would potentially allow users to "spend a token twice" and stop processing transactions.

The trio created examples of the Ripple protocol using different numbers and types of nodes to demonstrate possible security and vitality violations. According to the models, the presence of faulty or malicious nodes can have "devastating effects on the health of the network".

"Our findings show that the Ripple protocol is largely based on synchronized clocks, timely message delivery, the presence of an error-free network, and a preliminary agreement on shared trusted nodes with the Unique Node List signed by Ripple , " the researchers said in a statement on the subject . used his statements and added:

"If one or more of these conditions are violated, the system may fail badly, especially if attackers become active within the network."

No Delay of Response from CTO
Ripple's chief technology officer (CTO) David Schwartz was quick to respond to Cachin's comments on Twitter. The Ripple CTO argued that such a situation was "impractical" and stated that any attacker should split the network and check part of the Unique Node List to do what the researchers suggested.

"The general philosophy of the Unique Node List is that attackers have a chance to compromise vitality and then move away from the Unique Node List forever , " Schwartz said on the subject . Security attacks also require significant control over the propagation of messages across the network, making them impractical. So it's not a practical problem for Bitcoin to completely lack division tolerance. ” used the expressions.

None of the researchers have yet responded to Ripple 's criticism of the CTO's findings. However, the group emphasized that the attacks were purely theoretical in the original analysis and were not represented by a live network.

Is XRP Affected?
This research will likely not affect the XRP price . However, making such a claim may cause people to do more research and examine whether such a situation is real or not.

In this case, if the researchers' claims are true, then the price may be affected by this situation.
